Aurangabad gets CAT centre for 1st time

The registration for the test will start on August 6 and end on September 30. At the time of registration, a candidate has to select three cities. There is same good news for the aspirants of Common Admission Test (CAT) 2014 as the city has been selected as the test centre for the first time in its history.


The CAT 2014 will be held in the city from November 16 to 22 this year. 
According to the sources, hundreds of local students from the city used to take CAT every year in metros to get admission to top B-schools of the country as the city was not the exam centre. Top 13 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) conducted CAT-2013 at 40 centers across the country including four from the State-Mumbai, Nagpur, Navi Mumbai and Pune. The sources further said that the students and parents had been demanding to have centre in the cities like Aurangabad for the last several years as they had to spend time and money on travelling long-distance for the examination. The test which determines selection for the IIMs and other premier B schools, has made number of changes in the pattern and increasing centers this year. 

"This year CAT has increased the centers from 40 to 99. Number of test centers has increased to 11 in the state as compared to earlier four. The new centers are Aurangabad, Ahmednagar, Amravati, Jalgaon, Kolhapur, Nashik and Solapur," the sources said. In 2013 the examination was conducted over a period of 20 days from from 16 October to 11 November. The duration of the test has been increased to 170 minutes from earlier 140 minutes. 


The number of questions in each section' Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation, and Verbal Ability and Logical has also been increased to 50 from the existing 30 questions. The registration fee for the general candidates is Rs 1600, while for the reserved category students it is Rs 800, which is to be paid online at the time of registration. 


The eligibility criteria is that a candidate must hold a bachelor's degree with at least 50 (45 per cent for reserved category) per cent marks or equivalent.
