Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have decided to take to streets against the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co Ltd (MSEDCL), separately on Monday and Tuesday.
District chief of Shiv Sena Ambadas Danve said that the MSEDCL has disconnected power supply of over 3,000 farmers in the district without giving prior notice. The MSEDCL officials have disconnected the supply from transformers and as a result the farmers, who have cleared all dues, are also deprived of electricity.
The company can disconnect power supply from transformers, only if more than 80 percent power consumers are defaulters. But there are many instances where only 10-15 per cent farmers connected through one transformer are defaulters.
Throwing light on the nature of Shiv Sena agitation, Danve said that all (82) MSEDCL offices in the district will be locked at one moment and demonstrations will be held in front of the locked offices on Monday at 11 am. Danve, city mayor Kala Ojha and other party leaders will remain present.
District president of BJP Eknath Jadhav said that the party will take thousands of farmers to the streets and stage 'Rasta Roko' at Karmad on Monday and at Phulambri on Tuesday.
The move at Karmad will be led by MP Raosaheb Danve, former minister Haribhau Bagade and former MLC Shrikant Joshi while at Phulambri BJP state secretaries Atul Save, Dr Bhagwat Karad and party spokesperson Shirish Boralkar will lead the agitation.
