Shiv Sainiks today staged a demonstration in front of Hotel Rama International, where guardian minister Balasaheb Thorat had checked in, to press for their demand for releasing water into Jayakwadi dam.
The agitators said in view of the failure to release Marathwada's rightful share of water from Ahmednagar district, the dam has just 23.21 per cent water. On learning that Thorat was going to check in at Hotel Rama International, Shiv Sainiks led by MP Chandrakant Khaire rushed there and staged a demonstration from 5 pm to 7.30 pm. The agitators were seen shouting slogans against the minister, before they were dispersed by the police. Those who participated in the agitation include mayor Kala Ojha, MLA Pradip Jaiswal, Shiv Sena district unit president Ambadas Danve, Bandu Oak, Sunita Awulwar and Gajanan Barwal. When the police got a hint that the agitators might go out of control, they enhanced security at the hotel. Deputy commissioner of police Arvind Chavriya, assistant police commissioner Naresh Meghrajani and police inspector Shiva Thackeray oversaw the security arrangements. It may be recalled that a couple of days ago, Sena leaders had demanded for a ban on Thorat's entry in the city over the simmering issue of water.
