'Loudspeakers can be used till midnight on last four days' - Source The Times Of India


City police commissioner Sanjay Kumar said on Monday that the police would allow the Ganesh mandals and others to play loudspeakers, musical systems and bands till midnight during the last four days of the 10-day festival, which begins from September 9.

The police have stressed on the registration of each and every Ganesh mandal in the city so as to maintain a strict vigil.

Speaking to TOI, Kumar said, "Recently, the government has passed a government resolution stating that the music systems could be played till midnight on any of the four days of the festival."

"Hence, we along with the district administration have decided to would allow them for the last four days of the festival."

He said that this year, the police stations in the city would take steps to register all the Ganesh mandals falling in their jurisdictions, so that proper planning about security is done.

"Last year, around 1,300 Ganesh Mandals had registered themselves with us."

"This year, we expect the number to go up by another 100 for which we will keep the registration and police permission process open till beginning of the festival," Kumar added.

Every year, the Ganesh mandals have been express anger over the ban on playing of loud music systems during the festival.

However, the state government has recently passed a resolution with prior permission from the district collectorate.
