Documentary to help gram panchayats get lesson in disaster management - Source TOI

Taking a cue from the disaster at Kedarnath, the Aurangabad divisional disaster management officials have prepared a documentary to create awareness in the region on different aspects of handling a natural disaster.

As a part of the drive, compact discs (CDs) containing a 20 minute long documentary titled 'Suraksha' will be distributed to over 6,000 gram panchayats across eight districts of Marathwada on how to tackle with a disaster and avoid loss of life. The CDs would be given to the district collectors of the eight districts of Marathwada region, who would further take care for its circulation in the 76 talukas of the region comprising 6,653 gram panchayats

Speaking to TOI, divisional disaster management officer Kishore Kurhe said, "As a part of our initiative to create awareness of the precautions to be taken before, during and after a natural disaster, we have made a 20 minute long documentary. The talathis and the gram sevaks at all the gram panchayats have been given instructions to ensure that the villagers are shown the documentary."

Officials said that the documentary shows how people can ensure their and their family's safety at a time of natural disaster by taking precautions. Live demonstrations have also been shown in the documentary so that the villagers grasp them in a better manner.

Sources said that the divisional commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal had given special instructions to the divisional disaster management asking them to use the terminology, accent and vernacular language used in the rural parts of Marathwada region in the entire documentary, so that it understood by the villagers, who have their own jargons for various things found in rural areas.

A letter in this regard and a copy of the CD containing documentary were sent by the divisional commissionorate to the eight district collectors of the region on Wednesday and have been asked to utilise the district disaster mitigation fund for making copies of the CDs and their distribution till gram panchayat level.
