The Marathwada Secondary and Higher Secondary Headmasters Association has warned that they would not cook mid-day meal from August 16 if the government fails to appoint separate machinery for cooking by August 15.
In a memorandum submitted to chief minister and school education minister, all concerned of the department stated that they should be relieved of cooking duty to ensure more time for better teaching to the students. They lose their precious time in maintaining the accounts of mid-day meal, cooking, purchasing required items for meal and then maintaining cleanliness.
It is taking heavy toll on the education of the students, they added.
It further read that citing the Supreme Court order, the government has mandated the responsibility of mid-meal on the headmasters.
In fact, the headmasters are not dieticians and hence any lapse in cooking may lead to poisoning and eventually death of the students. In such cases, headmasters will be held solely responsible and they will have to suffer.
The memorandum bore the signatures of founding state president Raosaheb Awari, Marathwada president Unus Patel, secretary M P Surgade and district president Mohan Sonawane.
