Rain ravages city areas - Source LT

n 1st driving showers of monsoon
n Low-lying areas waterlogged
n Satara bore the brunt of rain
The torrential rains battered the city for nearly an hour on Friday afternoon, causing waterlogging in many low-lying areas in the city.
Besides, the water also entered into many houses and shops, causing hardships to people.
This is perhaps the first of its kind heavy downpour this monsoon that the city witnessed on Friday. 
Chikalthana metrological department recorded 18 mm rainfall by Friday evening. 
This year the district received showers of the monsoon on time. Even the district had received pre monsoon showers. On Friday afternoon, the city areas like Aurangapura, Nirala Bazaar, Naralibaug, Town Hall, Balajinagar, Sanjaynagar, Trimurti Chowk, Pundaliknagar, Shivajinagar, Wankhedenagar from Hudco, TV Centre chowk, M-2, Pratapgadhnagar experienced waterlogging. The water had entered into various shops in areas like Nirala Bazaar, Town Hall, Aurangpura, Balajinagar and Niralabazar. 
The rain wreaked havoc in the Satara area and it was cut off from the city for some time as the water was flowing over Farshi bridge. 
The areas like Waluj, Deolai, Kanchanwadi, Nakshtrawadi, Chikalthana, Harsul and Naregaon also experienced heavy rainfall.
A big tree uprooted owing to heavy rain before the public works department office in Padampura area. The fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and removed the tree.
Aurangabad district has received a total of 117 mm rainfall so far. Soygaon tehsil has received highest 178 mm rainfall followed by Sillod with 152mm rainfall. Tehsil-wise break-up: Kannd tehsil- 136 mm, Aurangabad-109 mm, Phulambri-103 mm, Gangapur-77 and Paithan 70 mm rainfall.
