Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University is set to lose crores of rupees in revenue as no new Iraqi student will turn up for admission here from the new academic year, thanks to a fiat from the Iraqi government asking them to approach only select institutes in India.
Hundreds of students from different parts of the world including Iraq, Kenya, Iran, Egypt, Sudan, arrive in the city for pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate courses, M Phil and Ph D research.
There were over 600 foreign students, majority of them from Iraq, pursuing different courses in university departments and affiliated colleges in the last academic year.
However, the foreign students do not get all the facilities in all the universities and colleges of the country. Many a time, the admission, examinations and result is delayed due to local technical problems. Students, who come on scholarship period for a fixed term, have to suffer a lot. Sometimes, they have to stay in India for months just for getting solved pretty issues.
Only 3 institutions in Maha among the sanctioned list
