Concern expressed over slow pace of clean-up works - Source LT

The standing committee members today expressed their disappointment over the poor sanitary conditions and slow pace of desilting of nullahs.
Member Jagdish Siddh demanded adequate number of sanitary workers to cope with the situation. "The need for adequate sanitary workers is being neglected by the AMC. As a result, heaps of garbage can be seen everywhere in the city and the less is said about the nullahs is better," he said.
Firdaus Fatema, another member, underlined the need for concentrating slum areas. "Owing to the delay in desilting of nullahs, they are overflowing and rainwater is storming into houses in low-lying areas," she told the meeting. Members Savita Ghadamode, Urmila Chite and others also raised the issue of the prevailing unhygienic environment in the city. Chairman Narayan Kuche then directed the civic authorities to conduct site inspection of all ward offices and submit a report on the requirement of sanitary workers.
