The Medical Education and Research Department has assigned a doctor from Nagpur to the Cancer Hospital at Amkhas Maidan on deputation. Besides, the department has appointed an expert doctor attached to a private hospital on regular contract basis at the cancer hospital.
Lokmat Times had recently in its report highlighted that the cancer hospital was on the lip of closure as head of radiology department went on one month long leave and an associate professor from the hospital tendered his resignation.
Taking note of the LT report, the medical education department has appointed the doctors with immediate effect. Notably associate professor working at the cancer hospital Dr Ubale had resigned in May. Thus head of radiology department Dr Balaji Shewalkar was overburdened and working without availing leave. However, he also offered his resignation following media reports about his private practice.
Keeping the interest of the patients in mind, dean of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Dr K S Bhople did not accept the resignation of Dr Shewalkar. Later Dr Shewalkar went on one month leave, bringing the services at the hospital to a standstill.
Then Dr Bhople contacted medical education and research department and asked to appoint the doctors immediately following which a doctor has been appointed on deputation.
