Finally, the election programme for Aurangabad Metropolitan Development Authority (AMDA) has been declared. The election will be held on July 15 and counting of votes on July 17. AMDA is being set up for the planned development and providing proper amenities in the surrounding 304 villages in Aurangabad, Gangapur and Khuldabad tehsils. The administration had recently published the voters' list for the election.
Aurangabad city and its surrounding areas are developing by leaps and bounds. However, the government intends to develop some cities, including Aurangabad, in a planned and consistent manner and issued a notification for setting up MDAs in 2008. There would be 45 members on the committee, including 30 elected and 15 nominated by the government. Sarpanch, corporators would elect 30 members.
The divisional commissioner had sent a proposal for the election of the committee to the government one and half year ago. However, the proposal got burnt down in the inferno that broke out at the secretariat, Mumbai in June last year. A fresh proposal was sent to the government. Now, the government has accepted the proposal and declared the election programme. As many as 294 voters, including 178 from rural parts and 116 from urban parts, will take part in the polling.
