Kannad legislator alleges irregularities in roadwork - Source LT

■ Harshwardhan Jadhav launches hunger strike

Kannad MLA Harshwardhan Jadhav has launched a hunger strike in front of the public works department (PWD) office on Wednesday.
He has resorted to strike to press for various demands including bills of tar, maintenance registers of tar, budget, measurement book of the Kannad-Pishor roadwork being constructed under 13th finance plan.
Jadhav alleged that the contractor of the road has already received Rs 75 lakh. The road being constructed at the cost of Rs 1.04 crore has been not completed even 50 percent. "The report of vigilance and quality control department is being put under wraps which shows irregularities of crores of rupees by deputy engineer by presenting bogus bills without undertaking any work. Attempts are being made to hush up the matter," he alleged.
He said , "The construction of Kannad-Pishor Road is substandard, hence, it should be stopped immediately. The quality of work should be probed and the officers who paid the bills without verifying the facts be suspended. The construction of roadwork of Kannad-Chikalthana road is moving at a snail's pace. A probe should be ordered into the matter. An FIR be filed against those officers who sanctioned advance bills of construction works of ITI building and trauma care centre."
Superintending engineer of the PWD, Hemant Pagare said "We have received representation of various demands of Jadhav. The chief engineer has already ordered inquiry into the matter, hence, the copy of the report can't be handed over to Jadhav at this stage."
