Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan today assured a delegation of all-party MLAs and MLCs from Marathwada region that Jayakwadi dam would be provided with its rightful share of water and orders for the implementation of the Maharashtra Water Resources Regulation Authority Act-2013 would soon be issued.
Following the CM's assurance, the proposed agitation by all-party legislators from Marathwada has been withdrawn.
In view of the unprecedented drought in this part of the State, MLA Prashant Bamb had taken an initiative to bring all MLAs and MLCs of Marathwada together over the issue of discrimination in water distribution.
Today, their delegation made representations to the CM, who reportedly assured of releasing water in Jayakwadi from upstream dams.
"Marathwada should get its due share of water and orders to this effect will be issued before May 30," the CM was quoted as saying.
MLAs and MLCs had threatened to launch a massive agitation in front of the Divisional Commissionerate in Aurangabad from May 21, if their demand was not met by then. However, now with the CM's assurance they have withdrawn their proposed agitation.
The all-party delegation of MLAs and MLCs which called on the CM today included Sanjay Shirsath, Satish Chavan, Suresh Jethlia and Kishenchand Tanwani.
