MP Munde to go on indefinite fast today - Source LT

n Demands for release of drought relief fund

Demanding immediate release of drought relief fund, senior BJP leader and deputy leader of the party in Lok Sabha MP Gopinath Munde has decided to go on an indefinite fast in front of the Divisional Commissionerate from tomorrow morning.
The local unit of the party has issued a press statement in this regard saying that Marathwada region is facing the unprecedented drought for the last two months. Villagers are facing acute water shortage and have suffered losses to the tune of crores of rupees leading to the complete withering of their sweet lime orchards. They are not in a position to feed their cattle and as a result some private organisations have initiated cattle camps in the region. Sadly, these organisations are contemplating over the closure of camps as they are running short of funds for buying fodder. The Union government has granted some funds, but it is alleged that the State Government has not released them, leaving the farmers in lurch.
As reported earlier, while addressing a farmers' group at village Bhakarwadi in Badnapur tehsil of Jalna district on April 1, Munde had given a week's time to the State Government for releasing the drought funds and had warned of resorting to an indefinite fast. This announcement had come in the presence of BJP national president, who visited the region recently.
Keeping his words, Munde came to Aurangabad on Sunday evening and is said to begin his fast with thousands of his supporters from Monday.
