After a four-hour long meeting, the collector decided to allow power supply for two extra hours to the agricultural water pumps situated on the bank of Jayakwadi. The farmers earlier had power supply for four hours.
The collector Vikram Kumar had a meeting with farmers from Gangapur and Paithan taluka to discuss water scarcity in the area and its impact on the farming. Since the water stock from Jayakwadi dam is reserved for drinking this year, the power supply to agricultural pumps in the territory of five kilometres around the dam, was limited to four hours from the last fifteen days to control excessive pumping of water from the dam.
The issue had caused displeasure among farmers. Considering the farmers cause, MLA Prashant Bamb, ex MLAs Annasaheb Mane, Sandeepan Bhumre, NCP's district president Sudhakar Sonvane met the collector along with 200 odd farmers. They told the collector that farmers were unable to pump out water from their wells because of power shedding. Hence, they demanded minimum eight-hour power supply in that area. The discussions continued for four hours after which the collector agreed to supply power for a maximum of six hours. Additional collector Kisanrao Lavande and the officials from the revenue department and electricity supply company were also present at the meeting.
