The state-level Lavani Dance Competition, organised by the Maharashtra Kamgar Kalyan Mandal, received a fairly good response on the first day today.
In all, 18 teams are participating in the competition being held with the aim of preserving Lavni, a popular folk dance form of Maharashtra. The competition began with offering floral tributes to Lord Natraja and lighting a traditional lamp.
MLA Sanjay Shirsath, mayor Kala Ozha, Anita Devatkar and Sakina Tadvi were the guests of honour, while assistant welfare commissioner Prabhat Chavan made the introductory remarks. The winning teams will be given prizes by minister of state for labour Rajendra Gavit on the concluding day of the competition tomorrow.
