The Marathwada sweet lime growing farmers association will make a bonfire of withered sweet lime trees at the Kranti Chowk on Tuesday (March 26) to protest against the government's apathy to extend a helping hand to them.
A press release stated that orchards on more than 1 lakh acre area have been withered causing loss of thousands of crores of rupees. Although a package has been declared to save the orchards, there is no announcement for those orchards which have already been withered. In such situation, the association has been demanding the government to extend financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh per acre to orchard growing farmers. However, the government is dilly-dallying over the demand and thereby the association is going to make a bonfire of withered sweet lime trees. President of the association Jayajirao Suryawanshi has appealed to the farmers to participate in the agitation.
