Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu) has geared up for its 53rd annual convocation to be held on March 10.
Dr Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, usually referred to as Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, has given his consent to be the chief guest for the convocation ceremony beginning from 5 pm onwards.
Known as the missile man of India and a scientist of great repute, Dr Kalam has served as the 11th President of the country. He will deliver the convocation address, while vice chancellor Dr Vijay Pandhripande will preside over the ceremony.
According to sources, around 13,500 students of undergraduate, postgraduate from Arts, Social Science, Science, Commerce, Engineering, Law, Education, Management, Fine Arts and Physical Education courses and M Phil and Ph D research have applied for degrees to be presented on the convocation ceremony. Only those who had passed in October/November 2011 and March/April-2012 were allowed to apply.
Dr Kalam will confer degrees on select Ph D holders only. This is because there are over 300 persons who had completed Ph D and awaiting award of degrees. Only those who make registration in the morning of the convocation day will have an opportunity to get degrees from Dr Kalam.
