Divisional commissioner Sanjiv Jaiswal has decided to undertake a challenging task of desilting the Jayakwadi, which is the largest reservoir in Marathwada here on Monday.
Irrigation department, municipal corporation and district administration would jointly undertake the drive of desilting the Jayakwadi. The drive would be implemented in two phases. In the first phase, the desilting of live stock would be taken up in the first week of April.
Jaiswal took the decision at a meeting attended by collector Vikram Kumar, municipal commissioner Harshdeep Kamble, ZP CEO Sukhdeo Bankar, additional CEO Sambhaji Langore, chief engineer of irrigation department B M Sukre and superintending engineer E B Jogdand.
The drive will be undertaken with available machinery at the irrigation department. He also directed the district administration and municipal corporation to make available the machinery.
The officer directed the irrigation department to make provision for fuel of machinery through new schemes. Jaiswal asked the Zilla Parisahd CEO to hold meetings with villagers living nearby Jayakwadi to lift the sediment deslited from reservoir.
During the meet, the discussion was held on undertaking desilting of dead stock. However, there would be need of advanced machinery to undertake the desilting process. For that matter, Jaiswal directed the Godavari Irrigation Development Corporation to prepare a proposal to purchase such machinery. Dam area-35,000 hectare Sediment in Jayakwadi
