Today situation has become so precarious that the number of tankers supplying water in the adrought-hit Marathwada region has touched 1,292 figure at the end of March.
Marathwada comprises Aurangabad, Jalna, Beed, Osmanabad, Nanded, Parbhani, Latur and Hingoli districts.
Water is not supplied by tankers in Hingoli district as the need for tankers has not been felt yet, but in other districts 1292 tankers have been pressed into service.
Out of these, 369 tankers are supplying water in Aurangabad, 308 in Jalna, 332 in Beed, 198 in Osmanabad and 82 in Nanded districts. Parbhani has been given only three tankers. In all 1,048 villages and 534 wadis are being supplied with water by these tankers.
The water is being brought from 2,500 wells acquired by the district administration.
