Shivaji Jayanti celebrated sans usual pomp and show - Source LT

Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti was celebrated without the pomp it usually associated with in view of the region reeling under one of the worst droughts in the recent history.
Also, what is praiseworthy is that the celebrations committee had announced to provide a truckload of fodder to each tehsil in the district. The main procession started from Raja Bazaar after paying obeisance to Lord Ganesha. School education minister Rajendra Darda performed aarti. MLA Kalyan Kale, MLC Satish Chavan, MLC M M Shaikh and former MP Uttamsingh Pawar were present.
Speaking on the occasion, Darda praised the decision of the committee to make this year's Shivaji Jayanti celebrations a simple affair due to the prevailing drought condition in various parts of the State. He also lauded the initiative to provide a truckload of fodder to each tehsil in the district. Earlier, president of the district celebrations committee Vijay Autade made an introductory remark. Tansukh Zambad conducted the proceedings.After wending its way through various areas like Shahgunj, Sarafa Bazaar, City Chowk, Machali Khadak, Gulmandi and Tilakpath, the procession culminated at Kranti Chowk. A drummers troupe, lezim presentation and tableaux of Shivaji Maharaj and his Mawalas were the centre of attraction.

  1. Shiv Jayanti is celebrated mostly in Maharashtra.It is celebrated as birth anniversary of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj he established the Marathi Empire.
