Number of tankers increasing in dist - Source LT

To check the growing use of tankers guardian minister Balasaheb Thorat has made it clear that only those villages that have run out of water will be provided with tankers. The statement is seen as an attempt to prevent the tanker lobby which indulges in making a quick buck with its tankers.
As many as 245 tankers in the district supply water to 197 villages in the district. Of them, 23 tankers are owned by the government and 222 are private. Besides, a total of 536 tube wells are being used by the tankers to supply water.
Water sources seem to be depleting fast and more villages are demanding tankers for water. Aurangabad tehsil is the worst hit in the district where as many as 56 tankers are being run to quench the thirst of 43 villages and three localities. As many as 75 tube wells have been acquired in the tehsil, of which 34 are being used by tankers.
In Sillod, 52 tankers have been supplying water to 37 villages for which 130 tube wells are being used.
