'Farmers should process, sell produce to enhance profits' - Source LT

"Agriculture today has not remained a profit making business due to a chain of intermediaries between the farmers and consumers. This business can yield lucrative profit if the farmers themselves process the agriculture produce and directly sell it to the consumers", stated the retired administrative officer, Jayantrao Deshpande.
He was speaking during the inauguration of the three- day workshop on 'Food and Fruit Processing Industry' organised by Laghuudyag Bharti at Institute of Engineers Hall today. Prof. B K Mane, Vikram Kad, president of the Laghu udyog Bharti Deogiri Prant, Vijay Harsulkar, Aurangabad branch president Ramesh Pokerna and others were present.
Deshpande further said, it is very important to develop the facility of cold storage so that the farmers could supply their produce throughout the year. They should also have their own transport system so that the consumers can be provided quality and affordable produce. The training provided by Udyog Bharti to the farmers can improve their condition, Deshpande stated.
Earlier, Pokerna gave an introductory speech and elaborated on the objective behind organising the workshop. Anand Deshkar conducted the proceedings of the function while Nishikant Bhalerao proposed a vote of thanks.
