There was a huge uproar in the general body meeting over formation of heaps of garbage due to strike by the sanitary workers since February 25 in Cidco-Hudco areas, demanding release of their pending wages.
As many as 327 workers of 13 self-help groups (SHGs) are on strike demanding their wages which have been stopped since December 2012. Their term has ended, so the solid waste management (SWM) cell has tabled the proposal demanding extension of their services from December 1, 2012 to March 31, 2013, elaborated health officer Dr Jaishree Kulkarni.
Raju Vaidya questioned why the Cidco-Hudco residents are forced to suffer because of the AMC's mismanagement.
Mahesh Malwatkar drew attention towards formation of heaps of garbage due to absence of workers who are fed up with the whims and fancies of the civic authorities. Raju Shinde and Balaji Munde urged the AMC to shortlist the contractors by inviting tenders so that the workers would at least get their regular salaries and other benefits like PF, ESIC etc.
Kishore Nagare said why not the section concerned tabled the proposal of continuation before the end of contract period.
Hence, the mayor okayed the proposal directing the health section to ensure that the garbage is cleared promptly. Meanwhile, the corporators Bansi Jadhav and Raju Shinde sat on the floor to press for the demand of providing water in Harsul ward on priority.
Jadhav said that the pipelines have been laid but the water supply is yet to be linked.
The executive engineer S D Panzade assured of providing Jayakwadi water through tankers in Harsul ward. The mayor directed the authorities concerned to act immediately and informed that a special meeting in her office will be held to discuss the water supply through the tankers tomorrow at 11 am.
