Various workers' and employees' unions in the city and the district have extended support to the two-day countrywide strike on February 20 and 21, that has been called to protest the government's anti-worker policies.
Unions will stage demonstrations at Kranti Chowk on Wednesday and will later proceed through a Morcha to the divisional commissionarate. Various organisations have given a call for the two-day strike against increased inflation and various anti-workers polices of the government. Rashtriya Kamgar Sanghatana, Central and state government’s employees associations, teachers associations, bank and insurance employees associations, industrial workers associations and others will participate in the strike.
However, the Adivasi Vikas Vibhag Karmachari Sanghatana and Maharashtra Rajya Sahakar Karmachari Madhyavarti Mahasangh have decided to continue work but with black badges. Backward class employees not to participate Employee unions affiliated to the Swatantra Mazdoor Union have decided not to participate in the strike initiated by workers' unions that are attached to the political parties. Around 10 lakh backward class employees across the country will not participate in the strike, according to union spokesperson Narendra Jarode.
Trade unions such as AITUC, INTUC, NMS and others had organised a strike in Uttar Pradesh to oppose the bill seeking reservations for backward classes in promotions. Hence, the trade unions for backward class employees will not support the two-day strike, officials said.
