AMC to mortgage Shivaji Maharaj museum? - Source LT

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to mortgage its properties located at prime locations only to obtain Rs 200 crore loan from IDBI bank. 'Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum' may be one of those properties. Interestingly, Shiv Sena, which plays politics in the name of Shivaji Maharaj, is ruling the AMC when the proposal has been mooted.
Subhedari Guest House land comes under the jurisdiction of the public works department (PWD). Land on which Late Rajiv Gandhi's statue and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum are situated is also part of the PWD land which hosts Kamala Nehru Children's Park. AMC bagged this land from PWD for museum purpose. At present, this land is in the AMC's possession and for parallel pipeline loan civic authorities might mortgage this museum.
The administration got nod secretly for the proposal to mortgage properties in January 19 general body meeting and the resolution was signed by the mayor. AMC needed Rs 200 crore loan from the IDBI bank to pay Rs 100 crore arrears of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) and to deposit Rs 100 crore in water payment reserve account for the parallel pipeline. The civic body has already taken Rs 100 crore from the bank in September 2012 to pay the MSEDCL arrears and now for the remaining Rs 100 crore they have decided to mortgage 25 properties worth billions of rupees which include museum in front of the Labour Colony.
Properties to be mortgaged
AMC main building, weekly market place of Shahgunj, Khadkeshwar library, Kranti Chowk hospital and shopping complex building, Town Hall, Nehru Bhawan building, Shahgunj shopping complex, Jubilee Park garden, Nehru Children's Park at Labour Colony, 26 acres of land at Kanchanwadi's gut number 66, 5, 7/1, 4 and 6, one hectare 21 R land from Gut no. 410 at Chikalthana, Central Naka mechanical workshop, AMC property at Bansilalnagar, 2,447 square metres land in Reliance Mall at Garkheda Road, City Marvel Complex at Nirala Bazaar, City Pride building Jalna Road and Piya Market at Aurangpura are 25 properties to be mortgaged with IDBI Bank. Twenty objections have been received against this proposal.
Meanwhile, executive engineer S D Panzade said that, land from Subhedari Guest House to Rajiv Gandhi statue is owned by the PWD and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum is one part of it. Now, it is in the civic body's custody. IDBI bank has asked for a letter from PWD and AMC will obtain it soon. Kanchanwadi land is also in the name of the district collector but is owned by corporation. AMC will soon send a letter to collectorate in this regard.
